The program for the 60th Festival season is currently being prepared and will be presented to the Ministry of Culture and to the audience on the 1 February. On the same day, visitors of the website will be able to book tickets online. In the meantime the Festival announced the 60th anniversary of the Festival on one of the most prestigious world markets in Shangai.

The exhibition of Dubrovnik Summer Festival posters will be held in the Sponza Palace Atrium from the July 11^th till July 27^th entitled: “Festival: Memories on paper”.

 

Zagreb, June 29th 2009 – The general director of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival Ivica Prlender presented the program of the 60th Festival today in the Museum for Arts and Crafts in Zagreb. After the presentation Vipnet signed two years contract as a general sponsor. The Minister of Culture Božo Biškupić gave his support and congratulated Vipnet on a good investment.

Zagreb, 2^nd of July 2009. – The President of the Republic of Croatia welcomed the Dubrovnik Summer Festival delegation today:  the general director, Ivica Prlender and his associates Ivica Kunčević and Neven Frangeš.

The Festival Council Conference for the 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival  will be held on Friday , July 10^th, 2009 at 1 p.m, in the ambience of the Festival Palace. The Minister of Culture Božo Biškupić will preside at the Festival Council Conference, which is traditionally being held just before the Opening Ceremony.

On 01 February Dubrovnik Summer Festival will present the program of its 60th manifestation which will take place from 10 July till 25 August 2009. The presentation will be held at the Festival's Palace at 12:00 and will be guided by the General Manager Ivica Prlender and his associates for theatre and music programs Ivica Kunčević and Neven Frangeš. 

The performance of a chamber ballet „The Plumber” will be held on July 19^th at the Revelin Fort as a part of Dubrovnik Summer Festival dance program. The ballet is based on the motifs of Boris Vian, a dark-humoured French author, poet and composer.

France's Union of Theater, Music and Dance Critics and the French Association of Theater Artists awarded the “Orgy of Tolerance” by Jan Fabre the best foreign play for this year.

The opening ceremony of the 60th Dubrovnik summer festival will this year traditionally be held in front of St.Blaise's church, led by the noted and well known theatre director Dora Ruždjak Podolski.

 Arkulin, the play of the noted and famous Dubrovnik theatre director Marin Držić will this year again be shown at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, and will be performed on four festival nights starting on the 14th of July, and then on  the 15th, the 16th, and the 17th of the same month in the Art School Park.

Tonight, the 11^th of July, in front of St.Blaise’s Church, The Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra with the German soprano Nadja Michael, tenor Zoran Todorovich and lead by Ivan Repušić, will perform. This noted orchestra is the oldest one in Croatia, and together with the well known vocal soloists,  part of the Vip program of the Festival.

Pavica Gvozdić and Vladimir Krpan, one of the most accomplished veterans of Croatian pianism, will perform on the 14^th of July in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. During the last 40 years they had many solo performances at the Festival and recently they performed together for the first time gaining great success.

The Dubrovnik Festival Drama Ensemble will perform Shakespeare's comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski, on 24 May, at the 11th Matica Hrvatska Days in Mostar. The ensemble will perform the same play in Debrecen, Hungary, on 10 June 2009.

Jazz/world fusion band Djabe, one of the best Hungarian bands, will perform on July 15^th, as part of Dubrovnik Summer Festival program.  Appearing on the stage with Djabe, prominent performer, ex guitarist of the band Genesis, Steve Hackett will perform and confirm his status as one of the best British composers and guitarists.

The 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival was traditionally opened yesterday by the raising of the festive flag in front of St. Blaise’s Church. Within the Ceremony, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra- the oldest orchestra in Croatia, the noted German soprano Nadja Michael, the Festival drama ensemble, the folklore ensemble Linđo, Dubrovnik choir, and the opera choir of the Croatian National Theatre in Split performed.

Dubrovnik, July 12th 2009. – Peter Brook, one of the most appreciated theatre directors today will be hosted by Dubrovnik Summer Festival, where his theatre adaptation of Shakespeare’s sonnets “Love is my sin” will be presented and therefore open the drama program of the Festival. Premiere of the performance was held in Paris on July 8th. Festival audience will have a chance to enjoy the show on July 12^th and 13^th on the monumental and impressive fort Lovrjenac.

One of the greatest violinist of today, Vadim Repin confirmed the performance at the 60th Festival and will be accompanied by well - known pianist with outstanding career Itamar Golan. They will perform the pieces of Debussy, Stravinsky and Beethoven in the Rector's Palace Atrium on 22 August.

Dubrovnik Summer Festival will host a Hungarian jazz/world fusion band Djabe on July 15th as a part of its Program Plus. Djabe will share the stage with Steve Hackett, a former Genesis band guitarist, who has earned the reputation of being one of Britain's finest composers and guitarists.

Croatian Association of Dramatic Arts awarded the Dubrovnik Summer Festival for the best theatre season dedicated to Croatian playwright Marin Držić. During the last festival season, Dubrovnik audience had a chance to see almost all Držić plays.

Dubrovnik, 1 February 2009 - Within the Festival of St Blaise and the City of Dubrovnik Day, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival executives announced the programme of the 60th Festival season which will take place from 10 July to 25 August 2009. The programme was presented on 1 February, at the Dubrovnik Festival Head Office, by Ivica Prlender, Dubrovnik Summer Festival Director and Ivica Kunčević, Theatre Programme Director, in the presence of Nina Obuljen, Ministry of Culture Permanent Secretary and Dubravka Šuica, Mayoress of Dubrovnik.

Dubrovnik, 9th of July 2009. – On today’s press conference for the media, held in hotel Splendid, the program of the 60th Dubrovnik Summer Festival was presented by the general manager Ivica Prlender and his associates Ivica Kunčević and Neven Franges. The European Festivals Association wished the general director, Mr.Ivica Prlender a successful opening of the 60^th Dubrovnik summer festival 2009.

LADO, the ensemble of the national Croatian dances and songs will start the celebration of the 60^th anniversary of the art functioning with two performances at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. It will be the beginning of its traditional Adriatic tour.

Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra featuring the pianist Dubravka Tomšič led by the conductor Noorman Widjaja will perform on July 18^th in Rector’s Palace Atrium within the 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

Tonight at 9:30 PM, in the organization of Matica hrvatska and Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the translation of Shakespeare’s sonnets will be presented in Dominican monastery in Durieux edition. Sonnets were translated by Croatian academician Luko Paljetak.

Press conference on the occasion of the “Orgy of Tolerance” premiere by Jan Fabre will be held on Wednesday, July 22^nd at 11 AM in the Festival palace (Od Sigurate 1 Street).

Within the program of the 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the student theater Lero will perform  the play  Epitaphio made after Marin Držić motifs, directed by Davor Mojaš.

Rehearsals for the first drama premiere at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival – ‘On The Terrace’ by Ivo Vojnović, directed by Joško Juvančić, have begun recently.

The Zagreb Quartet featuring famous tenor Krešimir Špicer will perform on July 20th at 9.30 PM in the Rector's Palace Atrium.  The cooperation of the oldest Croatian chamber composition and brilliant tenor was graded with the highest Croatian artistic Award for life’s work.

Within the dance program of the 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival, chamber ballet “The Plumber” based on the motifs of Boris Vian, the dark-humoured French

Within the drama program of the 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival, after great Peter Brook, the festival audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the play by one of the best artists today – Jan Fabre.

Jacky Terrasson (piano) and Philip Catherine (guitar), two terrific artists, will perform on July 24^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. They are both very well known for their unique, refined music repertoire which exceeds the limits of jazz genre so their first performance together will be noted on this year’s Festival.

The terrific duo who won all greatest guitar competitions – Zoran Dukić and his younger, gold star indicated colleague Maroje Brčić will perform together for the first time at the 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

The Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra will perform on July 26^th in Rector’s Palace Atrium and besides the classical and contemporary repertoire, it also cherishes the Croatian musical heritage and contemporary Croatian creation.

The projection of the movie “Metastasis’” by Branko Schmidt which was pronounced as the winner of the 56^th Pula Film Festival , will be held on July 26^th in summer cinema Jadran starting at 9 p.m.

Ex guitarist of the band Genesis, Steve Hackett, known as one of the best British composers and guitarists wrote about his performance at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

The most popular Croatian chamber ensemble Zagreb soloists featuring cellist David Eggert, current winner of International competition Antonio Janigro, will perform within the music program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on July 28^th in Rector’s Palace Atrium.

The play called “The words from the mountains” by Marin Držić directed by Rene Medvešek will be performed on July 28^th at the Revelin fort terrace within the 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

Folklore ensemble Linđo from Dubrovnik will perform on July 29^th at 9.30 p.m. on the Revelin fort terrace within the folklore program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

The second this year’s performance of the best chamber ensemble Zagreb soloists featuring violinist Sreten Krstić, concert master of the München Philharmonic Orchestra,  has been announced for 30^th of July.

The unique Dubrovnik play by Marin Držić called “The Miser”, directed by Ivica Kunčević, was performed for the first time on last year’s Festival.

The numbers tell us about the good reputation and how well visited this years' Summer festival is. The numerous articles and press releases- both national and international, in papers and on the internet prove what a success this years Festival is.

The exhibition of paintings by Davor Lucianović called Time Machine will be opened within the section of other programs at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, on July 31^st at 0:00.

Dubrovnik, 3rd of August 2009. – On the 5th of August in the Rector’s Palace Atrium at 21:30 the excellent Slovenian chamber ensemble will perform at the 60th Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The extensive repertoire includes compositions from all stylistic periods, from baroque until the 20th century. The Festival audience will have a chance to enjoy Haydn’s, Dvorak’s and Ravel’s compositions.

The Festival audience has a chance to enjoy the last performance of this Drzic's play today on August 3rd on Boskovic square at 9.30 pm. The Miser premiere was held last year and was proclaimed the best play for Drzic's birthday.

Dubrovnik, 4th of August 2009. – The premiere of Joško Juvančić’s play ‘On the Terrace , written by Ivo Vojnović, will be held on the 7^th of August in the Art School Park. Due to this event a press conference was held in the Festive palace.

Dubrovnik, 7th of August 2009. – The Varaždin chamber orchestra, the soprano singer Inva Mula, and the Croatian trumpet players Vedran Kocelj, Marin Zokić and Dario Teskera, led by conductor Ivan Repušić, will perform tomorrow at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

The Albanian soprano singer Inva Mula, known to the public through Luc Besson's movie ‘The 5th element’, will after visiting the rest of the Croatian coast come to Dubrovnik due to the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

The famous Czech director Jiri Menzel visited Dubrovnik Summer Festival as well since he is shooting a documentary movie about Croatia. Theatre and movie director who won the Oscar in 1966., at the age of 28 for the movie “Closely Watched Trains”, has visited Dubrovnik several times, where he directed “Hamlet” on Lovrjenac and "Le Malade Imaginaire".

In honor of the conductor's 75th birthday the noted Croatian pianist Dalibro Cikojević will perform his first composition, while the famous fiddler Stefan Milenkovich will play his first bigger adolescent achievement from Felix Mendelssohn – Bartholdy. 
 

Damil Kalogjera, the official photographer of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival will present his first exhibition under the name „ Festival Moment“ in the Rector's Palace Atrium on the 11th of August. After Budapest and Zagreb, Damil Kalogjera will exhibit in Dubrovnik for the first time, portraying his photographs which capture the moment and circumstances of performing at the Festival.

The long expected performance of three young, but already recognized stars of the Croatian reproduction - Marija Pavlović from Dubrovnik, last year winner of the Festival award Orlando Martina Filjak, and the debutant at the Festival Kajana Pačko will be held on August 12^th within the music program of the Dubrovnik Summer festival.

Croatian pianist Martina Filjak won the first award at the respected international pianist competition in Cleveland which brought her 50 000 dollars, but also a performance in Carnegie Hall, New York.

Dubrovnik, 12th of August 2009. –Last night Damil Kalogjera's exhibition opening took place at midnight at the Sponza palace atrium. The official photographer of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival presented his photographs under the name  'Festival Moment'. 

After last night’s Hamlet rehearsal, Goran Grgić joined the photo exhibition by Damil Kalogjera opening in Sponza palace and Željko Tutnjević photographed the meeting of two Gorans.

Dubrovnik, 12th of August 2009. – The Split Summer Festival ensemble will have a guest performance on the 13th of August with the play 'My child' as a part of the drama program of the Dubrovnik Festival. The play is written by the contemporary British dramatist Mike Bartlett, and is about a family tragedy centered around a child of divorced parents. It is directed by Nenni Delemestre and will be held on the Revelin fort terrace.

Dubrovnik, 14th of August 2009. – The renowned Russian duo, Alexander Ghindin and Nikolay Petrov will perform tonight in the Rector's palace atrium. The festival audience can expect a charming Spanish musical night, performed by those two noted and well known musicians.   

Last year’s successful opera Acis and Galatea will again be shown this year, on the 15th of August, as part of the Vip program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The directors Philip Pickett and Dora Ruždjak Podolski are celebrating Handel’s return to Lovrjenac, which will certainly gain the audience’s affection.

The finale and reveal game of the Wild League will be held on Sunday, August 16^th in Old Town Port starting at 4.30 p.m.

Joško Ševo, an actor from Zagreb Theater Gavella will perform on Monday, August 17^th with monodrama “Do you speak Croatian?” in Rector’s Palace Atrium starting at 9.30 p.m. for the 455^th time.

The premiere of the Shakepeare’s tragedy Hamlet directed by Ivica Kunčević will be performed by Drama Ensemble of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on Thursday, August 20^th on Lovrjenac Fort.

Leading Croatian violinist Laura Vadjon and top British harpsichordist Laurence Cummings will perform on Tuesday, August 18^th at 9.30 p.m. within the music program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. Festival audience will have the opportunity to enjoy baroque sounds – compositions of Händel, Uccellini, Frescobaldi, Castello, and Corelli.

Chamber Orchestra Concertverein and Austrian pianist Paul Badura-Skoda will perform on Wednesday, August 19^th in front of Rector’s Palace Atrium at 9.30 p.m. within the music program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.  This concert is a cooperation of superior representative of Vienna orchestral classic with deserved bard of the classical contemporary pianists. Festival audience will have the opportunity to enjoy compositions by Mozart, Haydn,  Schubert, and Beethoven.

The ceremonial Closing concert of the Philharmonia of the Nations conducted by Justus Frantz planned on Tuesday at 9.30 p.m. in front of the St. Blaise’s church will start at 9.45 p.m. regarding live transfer on Croatian television.

The official ticket sale for the unique gala screening of the film „ The Wrestler“began yesterday on the 18th of August. The film will be shown in front of the Rector’s Palace Atrium on a spectacular monumental location, starting at 20:30. The event is organized by Adriatic luxury hotels and the Sarajevo Film Festival in collaboration with the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

The Austrian pianist Paul Badura-Skoda will perform as a part of the music program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in the Rector’s Palace Atrium at 21.30, on Friday, the 21st of August.  The first part of the recital will be  performed on the Walter forte piano, and the second part on the Bösendorfer piano. The Festival audience will have a chance to enjoy compositions by Mozart, Haydn, Schubert and Beethoven.

The last performance of the drama premiere of the 60th Dubrovnik Summer Festival- Shakespeare's Hamlet by Ivica Kunčević, will be directly broadcasted on the 2nd program of the Croatian radio television at 21:30 on Monday on the 24th of August.

The Dubrovnik drama ensemble of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival performed the premiere of Shakespeare's Hamlet by Ivica Kunčević on fort Lovrjenac. Once again Lovrjenac transformed into a world of Hamlet, whereas Dubrovnik became a European theatre centre.

Joško Ševo's students will in collaboration with the Centre for Advanced Academic studies Dubrovnik, the Academy of Drama Arts and the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, under the sponsorship of UNESCO, participate in the workshop under the name „Greek Drama”, where they will present their work on Euripides’s “Medea” on the 22nd of August.

The three guitarists - Piñeiro Nagy, Pedro Luis, and Miguel Vieira da Silva will perform on Monday, August 24^th at 9.30 p.m. in the Rector’s Palace Atrium within the music program of the 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

One of the most popular violinists today, Vadim Repin, and internationally known pianist Itamar Golan will perform on August 23^rd in the Rector’s Palace Atrium at 9.30 p.m. within the Vip program of the 60^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival.  

Croatian Radiotelevision will traditionally award art ranges in accomplishment in the Dubrovnik Summer Festival program.

The Philharmonia of the nations, the choir Ivan Goran Kovačić, and the soloists Valentina Fijačko, Dubravka Šeparović, Tomislav Mužek and Luciano Batinić will perform as a part of the music program of the 60th Dubrovnik Summer Festival in front of St.Blaise's Church, at 21:45 on Tuesday the 25th of August.

Justus Frantz, German conductor and pianist, arrived yesterday with his son in Dubrovnik due to the rehearsal for the gala concert of the Philharmonia of the nations. The closing concert of the 60th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will take place in front of St.Blaise's Church on Tuesday, the 25th of August starting at 21:45.
