Preparations for the 60th Festival

20102008.jpg The program for the 60th Festival season is currently being prepared and will be presented to the Ministry of Culture and to the audience on the 1 February. On the same day, visitors of the website will be able to book tickets online. In the meantime the Festival announced the 60th anniversary of the Festival on one of the most prestigious world markets in Shangai.

After the presentation Vipnet signed two years contract as a general sponsor. The Minister of Culture Božo Biškupić gave his support and congratulated Vipnet on a good investment.

Announcement for the Festival Council Conference

za svečanu.JPG The Festival Council Conference for the 60th Dubrovnik Summer Festival  will be held on Friday , July 10th, 2009 at 1 p.m, in the ambience of the Festival Palace. The Minister of Culture Božo Biškupić will preside at the Festival Council Conference, which is traditionally being held just before the Opening Ceremony.

Program presentation

On 01 February Dubrovnik Summer Festival will present the program of its 60th manifestation which will take place from 10 July till 25 August 2009. The presentation will be held at the Festival's Palace at 12:00 and will be guided by the General Manager Ivica Prlender and his associates for theatre and music programs Ivica Kunčević and Neven Frangeš. 

Chamber ballet „The Plumber“at the Festival

Vodoinstalater_slika.jpg The performance of a chamber ballet „The Plumber” will be held on July 19th at the Revelin Fort as a part of Dubrovnik Summer Festival dance program. The ballet is based on the motifs of Boris Vian, a dark-humoured French author, poet and composer.

Arkulin is returning to the Festival

Tonight, the 11th of July, in front of St.Blaise’s Church, The Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra with the German soprano Nadja Michael, tenor Zoran Todorovich and lead by Ivan Repušić, will perform. This noted orchestra is the oldest one in Croatia, and together with the well known vocal soloists,  part of the Vip program of the Festival.

Veterans of Croatian pianism at the Festival

rector's palace.jpg Pavica Gvozdić and Vladimir Krpan, one of the most accomplished veterans of Croatian pianism, will perform on the 14th of July in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. During the last 40 years they had many solo performances at the Festival and recently they performed together for the first time gaining great success.

Guest performance of the play A Midsummer Night's Dream in Mostar and Debrecen

The Dubrovnik Festival Drama Ensemble will perform Shakespeare's comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski, on 24 May, at the 11th Matica Hrvatska Days in Mostar. The ensemble will perform the same play in Debrecen, Hungary, on 10 June 2009.

Ex Genesis guitarist attending Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Within the Ceremony, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra- the oldest orchestra in Croatia, the noted German soprano Nadja Michael, the Festival drama ensemble, the folklore ensemble Linđo, Dubrovnik choir, and the opera choir of the Croatian National Theatre in Split performed.

lovrjenac.JPG Dubrovnik, July 12th 2009. – Peter Brook, one of the most appreciated theatre directors today will be hosted by Dubrovnik Summer Festival, where his theatre adaptation of Shakespeare’s sonnets “Love is my sin” will be presented and therefore open the drama program of the Festival. Premiere of the performance was held in Paris on July 8th. Festival audience will have a chance to enjoy the show on July 12th and 13th on the monumental and impressive fort Lovrjenac.

Djabe and Steve Hackett at the Festival

Djabe will share the stage with Steve Hackett, a former Genesis band guitarist, who has earned the reputation of being one of Britain's finest composers and guitarists.

Theatre and movie director who won the Oscar in 1966., at the age of 28 for the movie “Closely Watched Trains”, has visited Dubrovnik several times, where he directed “Hamlet” on Lovrjenac and "Le Malade Imaginaire".

After Budapest and Zagreb, Damil Kalogjera will exhibit in Dubrovnik for the first time, portraying his photographs which capture the moment and circumstances of performing at the Festival.

It is directed by Nenni Delemestre and will be held on the Revelin fort terrace.

The film will be shown in front of the Rector’s Palace Atrium on a spectacular monumental location, starting at 20:30. Maestro Justus Frantz arrived to Dubrovnik with his son

Justus Frantz sa sinom.JPG Justus Frantz, German conductor and pianist, arrived yesterday with his son in Dubrovnik due to the rehearsal for the gala concert of the Philharmonia of the nations. The closing concert of the 60th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will take place in front of St.Blaise's Church on Tuesday, the 25th of August starting at 21:45.
