Traditional Performance of Linđo - August 17th

The folk ensemble Linđo from Dubrovnik performs at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 21st at 9:30 p.m. at the terrace of Revelin fort. The repertoire includes several Croatian folk dances; dances of Slavonia, Turopolje, Dubrovnik littoral, Bunjevci, traditional city dances, Prigorje, Vrlika, Šokadija and musical numbers performed by the vocal group a cappella and tamburitza orchestra.


Long anticipated first performance of Arkulin

_DSF4332.JPG The first performance of Držić’s less known comedy Arkulin will be held on August 20th, 2007. The play Arkulin was performed only once before, in 1997 on the stage of Marin Držić Theatre under the direction of the drama director Ivica Kunčević.

The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and the clarinetist Michael Edwards perform on August 19th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium under the baton of Zlatan Srzić. The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the pillar of music life in Dubrovnik, has been the keystone of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival for years and on this occasion it will perform the works of Ottorin Respighi, Bruno Bjelinski and Georges Bizet.


After Numerous Guest Performances On the Other Side at Dubrovnik Festival

The Zagreb Youth Theatre performs the play “On the Other Side” by Nataša Rajković and Bobo Jelčić at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 18th. The directors of this play are well known to the audience of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. In 2003 they participated at the Fesitval with their project “A Walking, Talking, and Improvising Workshop” and won the Orlando Award.


Another Music Story at Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Another music story at the 58th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will be told by the praised Dubrovnik Guitar Trio on August 18th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. They’ll perform the works of the contemporary composer Nikša Njirić and the works of Vivaldi, Bach, Sorkočević, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Fauré and Granados arranged for three guitars by Frano Matušić.

Japanese violinist Midori at 58th Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Japanese violinist Midori who is well known to the Dubrovnik audience performs on August 14th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. She will be accompanied by the American pianist Charles Abramovich. These two virtuosos performed at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival two years ago. The same evening Midori held the charity midnight concert in the Sponza Palace.     


Indian Temple at Revelin Fort Terrace – Performance of Purbayan Chatterjee Ensemble and Odissi Dance Group of Kavita Dwibedi

Purbayana Chatterjeea together with Kavita Dwibedi is going to perform the Odissi dances at Revelin fort terrace at 9:30 p.m. Odissi (or Orissi) is a traditional dance of Orrisi region in east India. It is one of the oldest dances of India, the origins of which go back to the 2nd century B.C. and it was performed by Maharis, the temple dancers.

Aeschylus’s Oresteia – magnificent performance of ancient classic

This play which premiered last year at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on July 14th under the sponsorship of OTP Bank has already had great rate attendance in Dubrovnik, Zagreb and Mostar.

Ivo Vojnović’s Equinox fourth year at Festival

The play Equinox directed by Joško Juvančić was awarded the best play by the Croatian Association of Drama Artsts in 2004. The cast of the play includes many Croatian theatre icons that have already marked the Dubrovnik Summer Festival with many successful roles.

The music program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in August offers the performance of Zadar Chamber Orchestra under the conduction of maestro Ivan Repušić on August 4th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium at 9:30 p.m. The talented young violinist Stefan Milenkovich will be joining them with the performances of The Four Seasons by Vivaldi, La Campanella by Paganini and Simple Symphony by Britten. The exhibition of Milovan Stanić is realized in cooperation with Art Studio Begonja and the State Archives in Dubrovnik. The exhibition is opened till August 25th, 2007.


Young artists conducted by one of the world greatest musicians today

Loud and long Applause for Dum Marinu u pohode

“Dum Marinu u pohode” is the second drama premiere at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival this year. It is the workshop by Joško Juvančić in which participate acting, directing and production students at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. Joško Juvančić realized this workshop together with his colleagues Joško Ševo and Doris Šarić Kukuljica and in cooperation with Slobodan P. Novak and Luko Paljetak.

Croatian virtuoso in the Rector's Palace Atrium

Dubrovnik Summer Festival audience will have an opportunity to enjoy the performance of Croatian pianist Lovro Pogorelić on 31 July in the Rector's Palace Atrium. He will be performing music works composed by Musorgski and Rahmanjinov, like his older brother Ivo couple of years ago.

The exhibition of the actor Livio Badurina was designed as part of the program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The exhibition Dolce vita / Showreel=Diary of an Actor, which was opened on July 20th is designed as the exhibition of photos presented in triptych and diptych form with a seven minute showreel projection. It attracted numerous home and foreign visitors.

puckica.jpg Tonight is the last performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski. We are extremely satisfied with the attendance rate and the cooperation of the Festival Drama Ensemble with the actors of the Croatian National Theatre. One of the most outstanding characters in the play is incorporated by the young and exceptionally talented actress Renata Sabljak.

Another Music Adventure of Kremerata Baltica and Gidon Kremer at Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Gidon Kremer has been the guest of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival for two years in a row and his performances have always been unforgettable for the audience. Kremarata Baltica is going to perform the works of Arvo Pärt, Georgs Pelecis, Charles Chaplin, Isak Dunajevski, Franz Waxman, Michael Nyman, Glenn Miller and Astor Piazzolla on July 28th.

Vilnius Festival Orchestra and Vadim Rjepin in Rector's Palace Atrium

The Vilnius Festival Orchestra and the famous violin player Vadim Rjepin perform at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on July 25th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. The repertoire includes the works of Penderecki, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Tchaikovsky. The Vilnius Festival Orchestra consists of fine young string players. The ensemble is a worthy representative of the high quality Lithuanian string school, which has a long tradition, and whose members often perform with the best orchestras in the country.


Kremarata Musica at Dubrovnik Summer Festival

The musicians playing in this string quartet, Gidon Kremer, Dzeraldas Bidva, Ula Ulijona i Giedre Dirvanauskaite, are all longtime members of the chamber orchestra Kremarata Baltica. During the season they perform in various ensembles in the most famous concert halls in the world. They have won numerous awards and recognitions and this year they are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the orchestra and the 60th birthday of its founder.

Boat transfers to Lokrum Island for A middsummer Night’s Dream


The first drama premiere at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, will be held on July 21st , 2007 on the island of Lokrum. The play is directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski and performed by the Festival Drama Ensemble. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival organizes public transfers for all performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Boat departures from the Old Port are scheduled at 9:00 p.m. while the return is organized after the completion of the performance. The boat boarding is possible only with the valid tickets for the play.

Bus Transfer for Dubac Quarry

image002.jpg The guest performance of the Stars dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet at the Dubac quarry is expected to be held tomorrow, July 19th at 9:30 p.m. Dubrovnik summer Festival organizes the transportation for the audience. The Libertas buses are leaving from Pile bus stop at 9:00 p.m. and the return is expected to be around 11:45 p.m. The bus ticket costs 10 kunas.

Jazz and Flamenco Fusion by Donation Gesture

The piano player Michel Camilo is going to perform on the piano which was donated by a music enthusiast who wishes to remain anonymous. The piano is the handcraft of finest quality made by the most prominent piano company Steinway & Sons.


Opening of 58th Dubrovnik Summer Festival

_DSF2957.JPG The Opening Ceremony of the 58th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will traditionally be held in front of St. Blaise Church on July 10th, 2007. The text for this year’s opening ceremony was written by Ph.D. Ivica Prlender, the general director of the Festival. The director is Ivica Kunčević and the composer is Neven Frangeš, theatre and music program directors of the Festival. More than 60 actors who are at the moment staying in Dubrovnik and who are all members of the Festival Drama Ensemble will participate in the Opening Ceremony.
 

Adieu Europe, Europe Adieu – Guest Performance at Dubrovnik Summer Festival

The guest performance by the Miskolc National Theatre, Hungary will be held on July 15th and 16th at 9:30 p.m. at the foot of Minčeta fort. The play is subtitled in Croatian language.

The Opening Ceremony also attended the President of Croatia Stipe Mesić, the Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and the Ministries of Culture of Croatia, Slovakia and Lithuania.

Festival Marked by 500th Birth Anniversary of Marin Držić

At the press conference the program and other events of 2007 cultural summer in Dubrovnik were presented by Ph.D. Ivica Prlender, General Director, Ivica Kunčević and Neven Frangeš, directors of Drama and Music Program and Ms. Dubravka Jusić, the Manager of the Corporate Communications at Vipnet, traditionally the general sponsor of the Festival.

Rehearsals for Držić's Arkulin to Begin

dolencic.jpg The rehearsals for Držić’s Arkulin, another drama premiere at this year’s Festival, begin on July 8th at 11 a.m. in the Art’s School Park. The spirit of the 21st century will be revived in this comedy about a miser in love by the director Krešimir Dolenčić, who has been recognized for his years-long cooperation with the Festival.

The rehearsals for this year’s first drama premiere at the 58th Dubrovnik Summer Festival, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, begin on July 1st on the island of Lokrum, where the play will originally be performed as part of the program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. After a month and a half of rehearsals, the Festival Drama Ensemble is going to replace the boards of the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb with those on the island of Lokrum, which have been a prolific stage for Vojnović’s Equinox for years.

Držić's Arkulin at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival for the first time

Dubrovnik Summer Festival performing at Matica Hrvatska Days in Mostar

The 2007 New Year's Party will traditionally take place from 29 December to 1 January. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board carry on the tradition of organizing the New Year's Party in Stradun, under the patronage of the City of Dubrovnik, which coordinates and financially supports the largest part of the event.

Robin Harris: History of Dubrovnik

robin harris.jpg Croatian translation of the book History of Dubrovnik by British historian Robin Harris has been presented on Monday in Zagreb by his collegues historians Stjepan Ćosić and Ivica Prlender, and the publisher. The English version of the book has already been presented in August at Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

Beginning of the Rehearsals for A Midsummer Night's Dream

The rehearsals for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the first premiere at this year's Dubrovnik Summer Festival, begin on 14 May at the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb. The Shakespeare's play will be directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski, who will soon visit Dubrovnik with set designer Saša Šekoranja.

Dubrovnik Summer Festival receives an invitation for Matica Hrvatska Days in Mostar

The Matica Hrvatska Mostar traditionally organises a cultural manifestation titled Matica Hrvatska Days – the 2007 Mostar Spring. This year the event will take place from 11 April to 23 June. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival is invited to take part with the play The Oresteia directed by Ozren Prohić and performed by the Festival Drama Ensemble on 20 June 2007.

Golden Trophy for Quality (New Millennium Award) to Dubrovnik Summer Festival

The Dubrovnik Summer Festival has been awarded the Golden Trophy for Quality. For 35 years this award has been awarded to organizations and companies engaged in various fields regardless the usual borders, whose activities show a growing quality or development trend. Ivica Prlender, Festival Director, and Ivana Medo, PR Manager, presented the forthcoming 58th Festival season and a promotional DVD to numerous guests, after which the award ceremony took place.
