The folk ensemble Linđo from Dubrovnik performs at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 21^st at 9:30 p.m. at the terrace of Revelin fort. The repertoire includes several Croatian folk dances; dances of Slavonia, Turopolje, Dubrovnik littoral, Bunjevci, traditional city dances, Prigorje, Vrlika, Šokadija and musical numbers performed by the vocal group a cappella and tamburitza orchestra.

The first performance of Držić’s less known comedy Arkulin will be held on August 20^th, 2007. The play Arkulin was performed only once before, in 1997 on the stage of Marin Držić Theatre under the direction of the drama director Ivica Kunčević.

The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and the clarinetist Michael Edwards perform on August 19^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium under the baton of Zlatan Srzić. The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the pillar of music life in Dubrovnik, has been the keystone of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival for years and on this occasion it will perform the works of Ottorin Respighi, Bruno Bjelinski and Georges Bizet.

The Zagreb Youth Theatre performs the play “On the Other Side” by Nataša Rajković and Bobo Jelčić at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 18^th. The directors of this play are well known to the audience of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. In 2003 they participated at the Fesitval with their project “A Walking, Talking, and Improvising Workshop” and won the Orlando Award.

Another music story at the 58^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will be told by the praised Dubrovnik Guitar Trio on August 18^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. They’ll perform the works of the contemporary composer Nikša Njirić and the works of Vivaldi, Bach, Sorkočević, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Fauré and Granados arranged for three guitars by Frano Matušić.

The Finnish musician Olli Mustonen performs at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival the works of Schumann, Mustonen and Prokofjev on August 16^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. 

Japanese violinist Midori who is well known to the Dubrovnik audience performs on August 14^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. She will be accompanied by the American pianist Charles Abramovich. These two virtuosos performed at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival two years ago. The same evening Midori held the charity midnight concert in the Sponza Palace.     

Purbayana Chatterjeea together with Kavita Dwibedi is going to perform the Odissi dances at Revelin fort terrace at 9:30 p.m. Odissi (or Orissi) is a traditional dance of Orrisi region in east India. It is one of the oldest dances of India, the origins of which go back to the 2^nd century B.C. and it was performed by Maharis, the temple dancers.

Young talented guitarist Xuefei Yang performs the works of Fernando Sor, Joaquin Rodrigo, Niccoló Paganini and Heitor Villa-Lobos at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 12^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. This internationally acclaimed guitarist has been a pioneering spirit since childhood. 

The next drama performance at the 58^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival is Aeschylus’s Oresteia on August 11^th. This play which premiered last year at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on July 14^th under the sponsorship of OTP Bank has already had great rate attendance in Dubrovnik, Zagreb and Mostar.    

As part of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, on August 10^th, the program of the fifth Zagreb Film Festival will be presented. For that occasion, Vipnet, the general sponsor of Dubrovnik Summer Festival and Zagreb Film Festival enabled the free showings of two Oscar wining movies.

The play Equinox directed by Joško Juvančić was awarded the best play by the Croatian Association of Drama Artsts in 2004. The cast of the play includes many Croatian theatre icons that have already marked the Dubrovnik Summer Festival with many successful roles.

The musical ensemble The Corinthian trio performs at the musical repertoire of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 6^th in Rector’s Palace Atrium at 9:30 p.m. They will be performing the works of Beethoven, Debussy and Tchaikovsky.

The performance of the chamber ensemble Luigi Cherubini is going to be held on August 8^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium at 9:30 p.m. The Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra is performing for the first time at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and they will be playing the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.   

Split Chamber Orchestra performs at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 9^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium under the baton of Pavle Dešpalj. They will be performing the works of Dešpalj, Mendelsshon, Bartholdy and Dvořák. The concert starts at 9:30 p.m.

Paintings by Milovan Stanić were exhibited as part of the program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival for all art enthusiasts on July 3^rd in the beautiful Sponza Palace. The exhibition was opened by Ph.D. Ivica Prlender, the general menager of the Festival and the academic Tonko Maroević, the author of the exhibition.

The music program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in August offers the performance of Zadar Chamber Orchestra under the conduction of maestro Ivan Repušić on August 4^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium at 9:30 p.m. The talented young violinist Stefan Milenkovich will be joining them with the performances of The Four Seasons by Vivaldi, La Campanella by Paganini and Simple Symphony by Britten. This rich musical evening is being anticipated impatiently.  

Four young musicians from Vienna, named radio.string.quartet.vienna, are performing at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 2^nd, 2007. The concert is going to be held in the ambience of Revelin fort at 24:00.

Another event for all art enthusiasts at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival is being held on August 3^rd in the ambience of Sponza Palace. The exhibition of Milovan Stanić is realized in cooperation with Art Studio Begonja and the State Archives in Dubrovnik. The exhibition is opened till August 25^th, 2007.

The music program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in August starts with the performance of Sinfonietta Cracovia and the soloists Monika Leskovar, Danjulo Ishizaka, Claudio Bohorquez under the conduction of maestro Krzysztof Penderecki. The concert will be held in Fort Revelin at 9:30 p.m.

“Dum Marinu u pohode” is the second drama premiere at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival this year. It is the workshop by Joško Juvančić in which participate acting, directing and production students at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. Joško Juvančić realized this workshop together with his colleagues Joško Ševo and Doris Šarić Kukuljica and in cooperation with Slobodan P. Novak and Luko Paljetak.

Dubrovnik Summer Festival audience will have an opportunity to enjoy the performance of Croatian pianist Lovro Pogorelić on 31 July in the Rector's Palace Atrium. He will be performing music works composed by Musorgski and Rahmanjinov, like his older brother Ivo couple of years ago.

The exhibition of the actor Livio Badurina was designed as part of the program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The exhibition Dolce vita / Showreel=Diary of an Actor, which was opened on July 20^th is designed as the exhibition of photos presented in triptych and diptych form with a seven minute showreel projection. It attracted numerous home and foreign visitors.

Tonight is the last performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski. We are extremely satisfied with the attendance rate and the cooperation of the Festival Drama Ensemble with the actors of the Croatian National Theatre. One of the most outstanding characters in the play is incorporated by the young and exceptionally talented actress Renata Sabljak.

After the articles in the BBC and Classic FM, the British write again about the Festival. Telegraph.co.uk, the website labeled with the certificate “NO1” (the first, the best) published the article about the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in which they mentioned Linđo, the folk ensemble from Dubrovnik which traditionally performs at the Festival and for whose performances an extra ticket is always demanded. The concert of the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica under the direction of Gidon Kremer is going to be held on July 28^th at 9:30 p.m. in the beautiful ambience of the Rector’s Palace Atrium. Gidon Kremer has been the guest of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival for two years in a row and his performances have always been unforgettable for the audience. Kremarata Baltica is going to perform the works of Arvo Pärt, Georgs Pelecis, Charles Chaplin, Isak Dunajevski, Franz Waxman, Michael Nyman, Glenn Miller and Astor Piazzolla on July 28^th.

The exhibition/the auteur project of Livio Badurina Dolce vita / Showreel = Diary of an Actor will be opened on July 20^th at midnight in the ambience of Ranjina Palace. The project is created as the exhibition of photos presented in triptych and diptych form with a seven minute showreel projection.

The Vilnius Festival Orchestra and the famous violin player Vadim Rjepin perform at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on July 25^th in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. The repertoire includes the works of Penderecki, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Tchaikovsky. The Vilnius Festival Orchestra consists of fine young string players. The ensemble is a worthy representative of the high quality Lithuanian string school, which has a long tradition, and whose members often perform with the best orchestras in the country.

The string quartet Kremarata Musica performs at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on July 24^th at 9:30 p.m. in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. The musicians playing in this string quartet, Gidon Kremer, Dzeraldas Bidva, Ula Ulijona i Giedre Dirvanauskaite, are all longtime members of the chamber orchestra Kremarata Baltica. During the season they perform in various ensembles in the most famous concert halls in the world. They have won numerous awards and recognitions and this year they are celebrating the 10^th anniversary of the orchestra and the 60^th birthday of its founder.

The extremely talented and in the world acknowledged Duo Attaccantilena performs this year at the 58^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival on July 22^nd in fort Revelin . The program includes the works of Fischer, Folie, Purcell, Jekyll and Hyde by Cibulka and Easter Toccata by Igor Lešnik for percussion and organ.

The first drama premiere at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, will be held on July 21^st , 2007 on the island of Lokrum. The play is directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski and performed by the Festival Drama Ensemble. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival organizes public transfers for all performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Boat departures from the Old Port are scheduled at 9:00 p.m. while the return is organized after the completion of the performance. The boat boarding is possible only with the valid tickets for the play.   

The Stars Dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet are going to honor us with their excellent performance on July 19^th. The performance will be held in Dubac quarry, nearby Old Town, at 9:30 p.m. The young attendants of the Art School Luka Sorkočević in Dubrovnik got the privilege to participate in small roles and as extras.

Neven Frangeš, the director of the Music Program and August Faulend, the Representative of the Steinway Company for Croatia chose, among eight by the famous company previously selected instruments, a new concert piano at the factory Steinway & Sons on June 6^th, 2007.

Dubrovnik Summer Festival has already been cooperating with Mazda, Croatia for three years. This year, just as the previous years, the famous guests and artists will have Mazda vehicles at their disposal. The general Manager of Mazda, Croatia, Branko Maranić handover the car keys of Mazda6 Sport Combi to the General Director of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Ivica Prlender on July 11^th in front of the Rector’s Palace

The guest performance of the Stars dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet at the Dubac quarry is expected to be held tomorrow, July 19^th at 9:30 p.m. Dubrovnik summer Festival organizes the transportation for the audience. The Libertas buses are leaving from Pile bus stop at 9:00 p.m. and the return is expected to be around 11:45 p.m. The bus ticket costs 10 kunas.

The jazz pianist Michel Camilo and the flamenco guitar player Tomatito together create a unique sound which the audience of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival will enjoy on July 17^th, 2007 in the Rector’s Palace Atrium. The piano player Michel Camilo is going to perform on the piano which was donated by a music enthusiast who wishes to remain anonymous. The piano is the handcraft of finest quality made by the most prominent piano company Steinway & Sons.

The Opening Ceremony of the 58th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will traditionally be held in front of St. Blaise Church on July 10^th, 2007. The text for this year’s opening ceremony was written by Ph.D. Ivica Prlender, the general director of the Festival. The director is Ivica Kunčević and the composer is Neven Frangeš, theatre and music program directors of the Festival. More than 60 actors who are at the moment staying in Dubrovnik and who are all members of the Festival Drama Ensemble will participate in the Opening Ceremony.
 

This year’s theatre program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival starts with the play Adieu Europe, Europe Adieu created by the trio Magelli, Balanescu, Udovičić. The guest performance by the Miskolc National Theatre, Hungary will be held on July 15^th and 16^th at 9:30 p.m. at the foot of Minčeta fort. The play is subtitled in Croatian language.

Dress rehearsal for the Opening Ceremony is the event which  Dubrovnik audience impatiently anticipates. The actors asking the senators for the City keys is an event which has been the folk spectacle for years. Preparations are being made.

The 58^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival started with raising the Libertas flag on the Orlando flagpole. The Festival was opened by the Dubrovnik mayor Dubravka Šuica. The Opening Ceremony also attended the President of Croatia Stipe Mesić, the Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili and the Ministries of Culture of Croatia, Slovakia and Lithuania.

The first drama premiere at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival! On the eve of the opening of the 58^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival, music, theatre and dance program of this year's manifestation was presented. At the press conference the program and other events of 2007 cultural summer in Dubrovnik were presented by Ph.D. Ivica Prlender, General Director, Ivica Kunčević and Neven Frangeš, directors of Drama and Music Program and Ms. Dubravka Jusić, the Manager of the Corporate Communications at Vipnet, traditionally the general sponsor of the Festival.

The renowned fashion design firm Image Haddad is in charge of this year’s fashions look of the hostesses at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The rehearsals for Držić’s Arkulin, another drama premiere at this year’s Festival, begin on July 8^th at 11 a.m. in the Art’s School Park. The spirit of the 21^st century will be revived in this comedy about a miser in love by the director Krešimir Dolenčić, who has been recognized for his years-long cooperation with the Festival.

The rehearsals for this year’s first drama premiere at the 58^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, begin on July 1^st on the island of Lokrum, where the play will originally be performed as part of the program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. After a month and a half of rehearsals, the Festival Drama Ensemble is going to replace the boards of the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb with those on the island of Lokrum, which have been a prolific stage for Vojnović’s Equinox for years.

The 58^th Dubrovnik Summer Festival’s 45 days of culture and art are being impatiently awaited. The promising positive work atmosphere in the Festival Palace, with numerous international quality awards  for the Summer Festival, first attracted  the foreign journalists (Netherlands, Long Island, etc.). Theatre Director Krešimir Dolenčić and Set Designer Dinka Jeričević will visit Dubrovnik in a few days time. The aim of their visit are arrangements for the premiere of Držić's Arkulin taking place At the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in the Art School Park on 20 August.

The President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesić received a delegation of Dubrovnik Summer Festival including dr.sc. Ivica Prlender, general director and Mr. Ivica Kunčević, drama program director.

Opening of  drama programme of the 58th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will be featured by Hungarian guest performance „Europe Adieu, Adieu Europe“. The play will be presented in directorial-dramaturgical lining Magelli-Udovčić. Dubrovnik Summer Festival will guest perform with Eshil's play Oresteia at cultural manifestation Matica Hrvatska Days in Mostar on 21 June 2007. The last year's Festival premiere is directed by Ozren Prohić and is a result of cooperation with Croatian National Theatre from Zagreb. The beginning of the performance is at 08.00 p.m. at Stjepan Kosača hall.

The Culturelink Network / Institute for International Relations, with the support of the UNESCO Office in Venice, is organizing an international symposium on Virtual Culture and Its Impact on Cultural Tourism: Experiences from South-East Europe, to be held in Zagreb, Croatia on 14-15 June 2007.

International Council of Fine Arts Deans will host a symposium in Dubrovnik, July 15-18, 2008. The Symposium will feature the Dubrovnik Festival and the visual and performing arts of Croatia. It is being organized by Mr. Michael Hood, Co-Chairman of ICFAD’s Global Connections Task Force and Ms. Elizabeth Cole, the Executive Director if ICFD whom we welcomed in Dubrovnik.

Aeschylus’ tragedy The Oresteia, directed by Ozren Prohić, will be performed by the Festival Drama Ensemble at the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb on 12 October, at 7.30 pm.

The Laboratorium Studio has won two 1st and two 3rd prizes at the 16th Moscow International Advertising Festival. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival was awarded the 3rd Prize for the poster series of the 57th Dubrovnik Summer Festival in the Print Advertising (Corporate Image) category.

The Festival Council, held at the Ministry of Culture and chaired by Minister of Culture Božo Biškupić Mr.Sci., concluded that the 57th Dubrovnik Summer Festival was successful one more time both financial and media wise.

On the occasion of the celebration of St Blaise's Day, the patron saint of Dubrovnik, and in addition to various accompanying events, a press conference was organised on 1 February 2007 at the Festival Office in Stradun. The Festival executives presented the preliminary programme of the 58th Dubrovnik Summer Festival taking place from 10 July to 25 August 2007. 

The 2007 New Year's Party will traditionally take place from 29 December to 1 January. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board carry on the tradition of organizing the New Year's Party in Stradun, under the patronage of the City of Dubrovnik, which coordinates and financially supports the largest part of the event.

Croatian translation of the book History of Dubrovnik by British historian Robin Harris has been presented on Monday in Zagreb by his collegues historians Stjepan Ćosić and Ivica Prlender, and the publisher. The English version of the book has already been presented in August at Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

The rehearsals for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the first premiere at this year's Dubrovnik Summer Festival, begin on 14 May at the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb. The Shakespeare's play will be directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski, who will soon visit Dubrovnik with set designer Saša Šekoranja.

The Laboratorium Design Studio has received the prestigious annual award the 'Perfect 10' given by the renowned American magazine How for the Catalogue of the exhibition 'U prvom licu' (In the First Person). The award is given annually to the best ten selected out of around one hundred shortlisted works from all over the world.

A meeting of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival Council will take place at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia on Tuesday, 30 January 2007, at 11.00 am, under the chairmanship of Mr Božo Biškupić, Minister of Culture.

The Dubrovnik Summer Festival has been awarded the Golden Trophy for Quality. For 35 years this award has been awarded to organizations and companies engaged in various fields regardless the usual borders, whose activities show a growing quality or development trend.
