String Quartet from Vienna at Dubrovnik Summer Festival
Four young musicians from Vienna, named
radio.string.quartet.vienna, are performing at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 2
nd, 2007. The concert is going to be held in the ambience of Revelin fort at 24:00.
Members of the radio.string.quartet.vienna are the band-leader, composer arranger and violinist Bernie Mallinger, the violinist Johannes Dickbauer, Taiwan-born violist Cynthia Liao and Croatian cellist Asja Valčić. The radio.string.quartet.vienna was founded in 2000, when Austrian Composer and accordionist Klaus Paier asked violinist Bernie Mallinger to put together a string quartet for his CD Movimento. The CD was nominated for the Amadeus Award, and after several personnel changes the Quartet developed a vigorous life of its own under its present name. The word “radio” in the Quartet’s name stands for musical diversity, contemporary music and also entertainment. The tonight’s concert is a short reflection of its recent CD with Mallinger’s arrangements of compositions by John McLaughlin from 1971 for string quartet.
