After Dubrovnik, A Midsummer Night's Dream will be performed in Zagreb
After its first performance at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Shakespeare's
A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski will be premiered at the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb on 21 October 2007.
The two major Croatian theatre institutions, Dubrovnik Summer Festival and Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb, continue their successful collaboration on the basis of the last year's positive experience. Namely, in July 2006, in collaboration with the Croatian National Theatre, the Festival Drama Ensemble first performed Aeschylus' Oresteia staged by Ozren Prohić. After five performances of the tragedy at the foot of Minčeta Fort, The Oresteia was performed at the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb four times. In June 2007, the production was presented at the Dani Matice Hrvatske Festival in Mostar, as well as at the 58th Dubrovnik Summer Festival.
This year's collaboration of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb resulted in another outstanding production. Staged on the Island of Lokrum on 21 July by one of the most sought-out Croatian theatre directors Dora Ruždjak Podolski, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream enthralled both the audiences and critics.
One of the most popular and frequently performed Shakespeare's plays, the pastoral comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream is a romance of four young lovers whose paths all cross in unfortunate ways, until the fairy king Oberon and his mischievous helper Puck sort the things out for a happy ending.
The performance's crew included Translator Milan Bogdanović, Set Designer Saša Šekoranja, Costume Designer Barbara Bourek and Composer Dinko Applet. The Festival Drama Ensemble featured Goran Grgić and Nataša Dorčić, along with the remaining members of the Ensemble who also offered impressive interpretations: Renata Sabljak, Milan Pleština, Jerko Marčić, Ana Begić, Tena Jeić Gajski, Vedran Mlikota, Radovan Ruždjak, Živko Anočić, Mirta Zečević, Saša Naumov, Zijad Gračić, Dušan Gojić and Roy Christian Sabolić.
The Zagreb premiere will take place on 21 October 2007. The repeat performances are scheduled for 22 and 24 October, while one more performance is planned in June 2008.
