Award winning “Government Inspector” on stage under Minčeta
Last years’ premiere drama play, Gogol’s “Government Inspector” in the direction of Jernej Lorenci and performed by the Festival drama ensemble cooperating with the Zagreb youth theatre, makes a return to the 62nd Dubrovnik Summer Festival with the support of Croatia Osiguranje. In the period from the 11 to the 14th of August the “Government Inspector” will be performed again on the stage under Fort Minčeta starting at 9:30 PM.
Based on the anegdote that Gogol apparently told to Puskin, “The Government Inspector” belongs to an “error comedy”, which predominantly shown human greed, stupidity and corruption in the Russia of old. “The Government Inspector” tells, in a rather comical way, of the arrival of an inspector sent from high echelons of the government to a town that is governed by complete corrupt people. As he wrote the comedy Gogol wanted, in his own words, “to hoard all the evil in Russia, all the injustice that was being done in places and on occasions where a man is needed to show all that he holds just, and to mock all that at the same time.” Gogol’s text has been successfully adapted by Slovenian director of the younger generation – Jernej Lorenci. The ruler of the town is played by Vili Matula, his wife is played by Nina Violić, while the rest of the acting group is composed of Karla Babić, Jadranka Đokić, Sreten Mokrović, Doris Šarić Kukuljica, Filip Nola, Robert Ugrina, Jana Kerekeš, Miha Bezeljak and Edvin Liverić. The choreography is the work of Gregor Luštek, costumes were entrusted to Belinda Radulović while the person behind the music and screenplay are Branko Rožman and Branko Hojnik respectively.
“The Government Inspector” has made a series of successful performances in theatres of the region and was awarded numerous awards. Those awards include 5 awards of the 35th Days of Satire, among which were the awards for best performance as a whole, for best direction and the award for best male role.
