Cantus Ensemble at the Festival
First Croatian ensemble specialized for the contemporary music, Cantus Ensemble performed at the 61st Dubrovnik Summer Festival with Claude Debussy, Paul Hindemith, Srećko Bradić and Igor Stravinsky compositions at the Rector's Palace Atrium.
Ensemble that succeeded to thrill the Festival's audience each time they performed, was founded for the need of the Music Biennale Zagreb, but soon grew into autonomous ensemble performing during the whole concert season.
From the beginning Cantus Ensemble demonstrates high quality performing predispositions. Berislav Šipuš as artistic leader and conducter gathers ensemble’s members who are highly competent chamber musicians, soloists and concert masters. At this concert guests soloists are: Robert Fabbriciani, flute, Domagoj Dorotić and Stjepan Franetović, tenor, Marko Mimica, bariton, Goran Jurić, bas.
For nine years, since the establishment, Ensemble has been preoccupied with 20th and 21st century music. They were awarded with the Vatroslav Lisinski award by the Croatian Composers’ Society for the outstanding contribution to contemporary Croatian music and the Milka Trnina Award by the Croatian Association of Music Artists for successfully promoting Croatian music for five years.
