CONCERT PROMOTION OF THE AUDIO CD: CROATIAN COMPOSERS AND THEIR CONTEMPORARIES  ON WALTER'S FORTEPIANO FROM THE RECTOR'S PALACE IN DUBROVNIK

IVANA JELAČA, fortepiano

The audio cd edition entitled Croatian composers and their contemporaries on Walter's fortepiano from the Rector's Palace in Dubrovnik  was developed from the collaboration between pianist and fortepianist Ivana Jelača with the Dubrovnik Museums. Namely, Dubrovnik Museums take care of the exceptionally valuable and in world terms very rare historical instrument- fortepiano built in 1790 by the famed viennese instrument builder Anton Walter, which restoration has made once again suitable for performing on and which is protected as a national cultural property. It is exposed as part of the permanent collection of the Cultural Historical Museum at the Rector's Palace. The pianist Ivana Jelača was specialized in performing music on historical instruments, completing postgraduate Specialization studies at the Zagreb Academy of Music, studying the theme of performing the piano sonata in the context of cultural changes, with great attention being dedicated to the historical development of keyboard instruments and the development of musical life and styles of the second half of the 18th century, when the piano gained popularity throughout Europe. Because of the very wide distribution of the instrument, it is not surprising that all the then leading composers wrote music for it – the sons of Bach, Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

During the promotion, pianist and the author of the edition Ivana Jelača will perform a repertoire which is carefully selected among the works by Dubrovnik composers and their Croatian and European contemporaries. The Dubrovnik Museums are publishers of this edition which brings novelty into the music life of Dubrovnik and beyond, since it is the first audio edition of Croatian music recorded on this rare instrument.

Concert Promotion within the 69th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will be held on the 12th of August at the Rector's Palace Atrium, starting at 9:30 pm. The audio cd edition  will be presented by the Dubrovnik Summer Festival' assistant artistic director for music Tomislav Fačini, director of Dubrovnik Museums Pavica Vilać and musicologist Vjera Katalinić. After the promotion, a short concert will take place in the Music Hall on the first floor, where  the pianist Ivana Jelača  will play in the historical ambience. She is the author of the program that in the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 promotes Dubrovnik's musical legacy as a part of European cultural heritage.
