The music and stage programme of the 68th Dubrovnik Summer Festival features the premiere of Georg Friedrich Handel opera Orlando subtitled Metamorphosesanddirected by János Szikora, on Friday, 28 July, beginning at 9.30 pm. The opera, which will take place in the magical ambience of the Benedictine Monastery Cloister on the Island of Lokrum, has been announced today, at the press conference held in the performance venue. Under artistic directorship of the conductor David Bates, the ensemble consists of a superb team of soloists: the British countertenor Owen Willetts in the role of the knight Orlando, Ivana Lazar in the role of Angelica, Renata Pokupić in the role of Medoro, Marija Kuhar Šoša in the role of Dorinda, and David Oštrek in the role of Zoroastro. The music will be performed by the Orlando Award winning Croatian Baroque Ensemble led by its Concertmaster Laura Vadjon.
The awarded performance of Three Winters by Tena Štivičić directed by Ivica Buljan and produced by Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb will be performed on Saturday 22 July and Sunday 23 July at 9.30 pm in Gradac Park. The play premiered in London to a great success and won the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize in New York. Its production in Zagreb has been received with universal enthusiasm, becoming a genuine hit.
As part of the music programe at the 68th Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Trio 1887 and clarinetist Domagoj Pavlović will perform on Wednesday, 19 July at 9.30 pm in the Rector's Palace Atrium.
Produced by Bitef Theatre and the New Fortress Theatre, to the 68. Dubrovnik Summer Festival comes the dance The Birds choreographed by Edward Clug, which will be performed on Tuesday, 18 July at 9.30 pm on the Revelin Fort Terrace.
The Festival music programme continues with violin recital by Stefan Milenkovich accompanied by pianist Rohan de Silva on Monday, 17 July at 9.30 pm in the Rector's Palace Atrium, with a programme entitled Freedom of Classical Music.
After ten years the Ballet of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb returns to the Dubrovnik Summer Festival with its hit performance "Swan Lake" by Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky in the choreography of the famous Vladimir Malakhov.
