CALL FOR ARTISTS – FUTURE EPICS LAB IN BARCELONA ‘DEVISED THEATRE AND PERFORMANCE’

Date created: 15.08.2019.

Future Epics announces an open call for participation in the lab DEVISED THEATRE AND PERFORMANCE. The project is organized by Tasca Projectes d’animació sociocultural (Barcelona).

As the second out of three planned labs of the Future Epics project, Devised Theatre and Performance is an additional way of searching for topics that can be used later in the creative process and also a way of creating a team that could work on the final performances that will be presented at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in 2020.

The participants will be given an opportunity to work with Miriam Escurriola, actress, creator of theatre, television and radio shows, filmmaker and pedagogue. http://www.miriamescurriola.com/

The main topics of this project’s narratives are mostly related to the cultural heritage in the widest context of this term – reconstruction, reevaluation, deconstruction, relativization and creating a tradition, in the sense of material and non-material cultural/historical heritage.

In the second Future Epics Lab, the participants will be dealing with these topics through working on devised pieces, which are increasingly becoming an important and effective method of communicating and engaging audiences in contemporary social issues. Due to the nature of devising, the most effective way of developing ideas and skills in this area is to fully explore a wide and diverse range of techniques related to body, emotion, voice, text, music and video. This diversity of these areas of creation is essential to fully understand the exploratory nature of devising.

Future Epics invites all theatre-makers of 18 years and older, from any discipline: performers, directors, choreographers, composers, designers, technicians, or students in any of those fields, to send their CV and a short motivational letter to lab@futurepics.org by 01.10.2019.

The lab will last 6 days, from 11. to 16. of November, in Barcelona. It will result in a showcase during which the participants’ artwork will be presented individually or collectively, depending on the group’s dynamics and affinities.

Participation is free, while the organizer covers all travel and accommodation expenses for the participants who are not from Barcelona.
