Standing Ovation for the Croatian Radio and Television Choir & Tomislav Fačini

Croatian Radio and Television Choir, under the baton of their principal conductor and the Festival’s own Assistant Artistic Director for Music maestro Tomislav Fačini, gave a breath-taking performance last night, 25 July, in the Rector’s palace atrium. The evening’s programme included the most beautiful Russian Orthodox choral literature: selections from Sergey Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil and Three Choruses by Georgy Sviridov.

A Spectacular Evening of Folklore with Linđo and KUD Jedinstvo at Revelin

The Linđo Folklore Ensemble continues their tradition of performing at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and, on the Festival’s 70th birthday, with four performances the first of which was last night Wednesday 24 July. Linđo was joined by KUD Jedinstvo, the esteemed folklore ensemble from Split. Jedinstvo are celebrating this year as well – 2019 marks one hundred years since their ensemble was founded. The two folklore ensembles delighted the sizeable audience on the beautiful Revelin fort terrace.

Mistero Buffo Monodrama on Bokar Fort This Friday!

Hamlet by Paolo Magelli on Lovrjenac at the Anniversary Festival

Shakespeare’s Hamlet directed by Paolo Magelli and performed on the Lovrjenac fort by the Festival ensemble will premiere on Saturday, 27 July, as was announced on today’s press conference held in the Festival palace. Artistic Director of the Festival Dora Ruždjak Podolski, her Assistant Artistic Director for drama Saša Božić, along with the play’s director Paolo Magelli, dramaturge Željka Udovičić Pleština and Hamlet himself, Frano Mašković, and other cast members. The sponsor of the production is HEP (Hrvatska elektroprivreda), the national energy company.

Pula Film Festival Sensation The Diary of Diana B at Jadran Open-air Cinema 24 JULY

In collaboration with the Pula Film Festival and the Dubrovnik Cinemas, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival will be showing the best Croatian feature film from Pula at the Jadran Open-air Cinema, on Wednesday, 24 July at 9.30pm. This year, the traditional free screening of the winning Croatian film brings the smash hit of the 66th Pula Film Festival, the Diary of Diana B, a “true story about the best of people and the worst of times,” by director Dana Budisavljević.

Phenomenal Performance of Top Trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger at the Festival

A spectacular concert was held last night, July 20 by The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and the virtuoso trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger, in the jam-packed atrium of the Rector’s Palace. The distinguished maestro Franz Anton Krager conducted the evening’s programme, comprised of Aaron Copland’s Music for the Movies, Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto in E Major, Zoltán Kodály’s Summer Evening, Le Tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel and, finally, Robert Nelson’s arrangement of The Lone Star Pageant.

“Under the Balconies” Captivates Festival Audiences Second Year in a Row

As a part of the anniversary 70th Dubrovnik Summer Festival theatre programme, last year’s acclaimed hit play “Under the Balconies” by director Dario Harjaček and dramaturge Vedrana Klepica, based on the works of Croatian literature luminary Ranko Marinković, was performed for the final time last night, 18 July, in the University of Dubrovnik campus park. Two performances were given previously at the 70th Festival, on 16 and 17 July also at 9.30pm in the verdant campus park.
