Lovro Merčep (Zagreb, 1990) earned his master's degree in saxophone in 2014, from the Zagreb Academy of Music under Dragan Sremec. At the same time, he studied at Lyon's Conservatoire a rayonnement Régional with Jean-Denis Michat, and later at the Conservatoire a rayonnement Régional in Versailles with Vincent David, as a French government scholarship holder.

From the academic year 2014/2015, he has studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory under Arno Bornkamp as a holder of the Adris Foundation scholarship.

He has won a large number of national and international awards, including that at the 7th International Saxophone Competition in Nova Gorica (Slovenia), the European Saxopxone Competition in Gap (France) and the International Emona Competition in Ljubljana.

In 2014, he won 3rd Prize at the 1st International Josip Nochta Competition in Zagreb, with 50 saxophonists from all over the world competing, as well as a Special Prize as the only Croatian competitor who reached the finals, when he performed accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic.

Lovro Merčep also holds a Rector Award and a Dean Award, as well as a City of Samobor Plaque for his achievements in 2013.

He has worked with Croatia's finest young musicians in various chamber ensembles, performing at the Samobor Musical Autumn Festival, the Vukovar Chamber Music Festival, and the Milko Kelemen Days Festival, in the Salon Očić concert cycle and at the 27th Zagreb Music Biennale.

As a member of the Ardemus Saxophone Quartet, he has appeared at the SAX14 Festival in Amsterdam's famous  Muziekgebouw hall; at the Holland Festival in the Royal Concertgebouw hall, and all over the Netherlands.

As a soloist, he has performed with the Croatian Chamber Orchestra, the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Slovenian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, and the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra; at the Osor Music Evenings Festival, and at the Croatian Music Days Festival in Vienna; within the Bajsić Studio Concert Cycle,  and within the Zagreb Philharmonic's Blue Cycle at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert hall; under the batons of Tomislav Fačini, Uroš Lajovic, Berislav Šipuš, En Shao, and others.

Lovro Merčep often performs compositions dedicated to him by the young composers Gordan Tudor, Sara Glojnarić and Ana Horvat.
