Gogol's Comedy ‘The Government Inspector’ Premiered
Second drama premiere at the 61st Dubrovnik Summer Festival, comedy The Government Inspector written by the Ukrainian-born Russian dramatist Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol and directed by Slovenian Jernej Lorenci, was performed at the foot of Minčeta Fort.
Festival Drama Ensemble in collaboration with the Zagreb Youth Theatre performed the play.
This well known play by the dramatist and novelist N.V.Gogol satirically speaks of Russian provincial town where the corrupt officials, headed by the Mayor, react with terror to the news that an incognito inspector (the revizor) will soon be arriving in their town to investigate them. This play that presents in all times live issue will be staged by Jernej Lorenci, the awarded Slovenian director of the younger generation. Universality and longevity of this text and the necessity to be staged all over again comes from the immortality of the motifs ‘The Inspector’ deals with. Play successfully discloses always actual topics, such as distortion of morality and social values, hypocrisy and weakness of character.
Vili Matula personifies the Mayor and Nina Violić Mayor's wife. The rest of the acting team are: Karla Brbić, Jadranka Đokić, Sreten Mokrović, Doris Šarić – Kukuljica, Filip Nola, Robert Ugrina, Jan Kerekeš, Miha Bezeljak and Edvin Liverić. Choreografy is work of Gregor Luštek, costume design Belinda Radulović, music creator Branko Rožman and scenography Branko Hojnik.
Festival's audience had the opportunity to enjoy the premiere on August 21, and other performances are scheduled for August 23, 24 and 25.
