Dora Ruždjak Podolski, Director of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, with her assistants Saša Božić (theatre), Tomislav Fačini (music) and Karolina Rugle (innovative cultural practices), has already created the preliminary programme of the 69th Dubrovnik Summer Festival, which will be held in more than 15 site specific venues in Dubrovnik from 10 July to 25 August 2018.
The premiere plays include: Miroslav Krleža's Michelangelo Buonarroti, a coproduction with the Ivan von Zajc Croatian National Theatre of Rijeka, directed by Sebastijan Horvat; a selection of prose by Ranko Marinković Under the Balconies, adapted by Vedrana Klepica and Dario Harjaček, directed by Dario Harjaček and performed by the Festival Drama Ensemble; and a modern adaptation of Renaissance comedies by Marin Držić and Nikola Nalješković realised in collaboration with the Zagreb Academy of Theatre Arts, Wedding Plays directed by Lea Anastazija Fleger, Marina Pejnović and Hrvoje Korbar.
The Festival also announced a guest performance by theVoronezh Chamber Theatre, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov'sUncle Vanya, directed byMikhail Bychkov, the first guest performance of a Russian dramatic ensemble at the Festival after several decades.
Other highlights include a widely acclaimed production of the Belgian ballet troupe Rosas entitled A Love Supreme choreographed by Salva Sanchis and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, and the Zagreb Philharmonic gala concert featuring cellist Mischa Maisky which will be held on 11 July, one day following the 69th Dubrovnik Summer Festival Opening Ceremony. The Festival audience will have the opportunity to attend recitals by one of the most renowned present day pianists Daniilo Trifonov, and the young Croatian pianist Ivan Krpan, this year's winner of the Ferruccio Busoni Competition. Orchestral concerts will include the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra and the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, both featuring prestigious conductors and soloists.
On Candlemass, 2 February 2018, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival's official programme and financing plan will be publicly announced, instead of the former practice of announcing the Festival's preliminary programme on the same date. Online tickets sale will start the same day.
