The music program of the 69th Dubrovnik Summer Festival continues with the concert in the Rector's Palace atrium by Andreas Ottensamer, the first clarinet of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and pianist José Gallardo on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, beginning at 9.30 pm, with the support of the Central European Initiative (CEI), which is currently being presided by Croatia.

Andreas Ottensamer comes from the old Austro-Hungarian music family. His father, Ernst Ottensamer, was called ‘’the Viennese King of the Clarinet’’ and was the legendary first clarinet of the Vienna Philharmonic, where Andreas’ older brother Daniel plays today. Andreas fell in love with music early in his life, at the age of four he started piano lessons and when he was ten he started studying cello at the Vienna Institute of Music and Art. In 2003 he started studying clarinet from the professor Johann Hindlerin. Since 2011 he’s been the first clarinet of the Berlin Philharmonic and since 2013 he has an exclusive partnership with Deutsche Grammophon, becoming the first solo clarinetist who signed an exclusive contract with Yellow Label of that prominent music publishing house. His second album Brahms: the Hungarian connection, won the Echo Klassik award for the instrumentalist in 2015.

José Gallardo, Argentinian pianist, will play with Andreas at the recital in the Rector's Palace. He started studying piano when he was five at the Conservatory in Buenos Aires and continued his studies with Professor Poldi Mildner at the Music Department of the University of Mainz where he graduated in 1997. Gallard's collaboration with Andreas Ottensamer began in 2003, since they started working jointly as artistic directors of the Bürgenstock Chamber Music Festival in Lucerne (Switzerland).

Program of the concert includes Rhapsodie by Claude Debussy, Pocket Size Sonata by Alec Templeton, La fille by Claude Debussy and Béla Kovács: Easy Moments. In the second part of the concert, the audience will enjoy Three Preludes by George Gershwin, Clarinet Sonata by Camille Saint-Saëns and Sonatina by Joseph Horovitz.

The concert is held with the support of the Central European Initiative (CEI). In 2018, Republic of Croatia took over the Presidency of the Central European Initiative with the aim of supporting the European perspective of member states wishing to become members of the EU, which is also the fundamental focus of the Central European Initiative but also with the goals of transferring knowledge and experience in the field of European integration, economic cooperation and cultural cooperation. The concert of the clarinetist Andreas Ottensamer and pianist José Gallardo on the 69th Dubrovnik Summer Festival is the central cultural event of the Croatian Presidency.
