Premiere of “Kate Kapuralica” even a bigger success than anticipated
The long awaited comedy by Stulli, “Kate Kapuralica” in the production of Dario Harjaček and performed by the Festival drama ensemble has opened, with massive interest by audience and critics alike, the drama program of the 62nd Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the play will be performed on the 29th, 30th and the 31st of July on St.Mary’s.
With minimal corrections to the original 1800. text, “Kate Kapuralica” is, as last night proved, extraordinarily modern in its show of the authentic town life and in the unburdened way it carries itself with no regard to civilized behavior. In the realism of its language it portrays a raw and real picture of the town, opens up about human destinies, those less fortunate on the social town map. The subversive and rude language it uses to talk to the audience, still deigns to speak about the more severe themes in life. On St.Mary’s it nestled in an almost perfect setting, in a ghetto of sorts, with city dwellers and their living permits which they hold above all else, who seem to compromise the ideal picture of the city. This production of the 62nd Dubrovnik Summer Festivals “Kate Kapuralica” is, through Stulli’s text, in its own seemingly natural environment, clashing the real live city to the ideal one and gives credit to those few people who try to find themselves and life under the thick walls.
The amazing acting crew consists of Nikša Butijer, Jelena Miholjević, Maro Martinović, Perica Martinović, Srđana Šimunović, Nika Burđelez, Ivan Magud, Branimir Vidić Flika, Romano Nikolić and Nikola Baće. The screenplay is the work of Iva Matija Bitanga and Leo Vukelić, the costumes are by Doris Kristić while the music is credited to Frano Đurović and the dramaturgy credits go to Katarina Pejović. Three more performances are expected, 29th, 30th and 31st of July, with tickets being already sold-out for all shows.
