Monograph “Joško Juvančić Jupa” presented in front of the large audience
As part of the off- program of the 62nd Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the monograph dedicated to the work of producer, pedagogue and long-time Festiva’ director of the drama program - Joško Juvančić, was presented on August 17, in the Rector's Palace Atrium.
The book was presented by its protagonist Joško Juvančić, general director of the Festival Ivica Prlender, monograph author and editor Hrvoje Ivanković, director of the Assocciation of Croatian Drama Artist Goran Grgić, and Perica and Maro Martinović who interpreted few short fragments from the book. A short, 9-minute video cut from the film “Jupa at the Festival”, created by Hrvoje Juvančić, was presented to the audience. Festival Drama Ensemble members, including even three Vojnović’s Idas - Nataša Dangubić, Perica Martinović and Srđana Šimunović, joined by Tonko Lonza and Miše Martinović which were highly praised by the audience, have surprised their beloved friend, professor and colleague with performance of legendary scenes from the plays “On the Terrace” and “Equinox” by Ivo Vojnović. Nikša Kušelj has, for the occasion, written a song to his “dearest professor and director”.
“We believe that an uniform picture of Jupa’s artistic creationist scope has been made, but an equally important goal of the book was to encourage future studies and reviews of Jupa’s role in the development of the Croatian theatre, to which he continuously has been contributing since 1960’s, which makes the monograph Joško Juvančić Jupa a convinient edition, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of his theatre work”, stated the author Hrvoje Ivanković.
Published by the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the book “Joško Juvančić Jupa”, is split in three parts where the first is a study encompassing, in chronological order, the complete theatrical path of Joško Juvančić, trying to contextualize his work at specific theatres and during specific periods, and to map out his relationship towards theatre. The second part was formed with the idea to make it in more leisure manner, as patchwork of photos and fragments of various texts dedicated to his work at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, with the third part being a theatrographical addition with a listing of his theatre plays and biography information.
An important segment of the book, written and edited by Hrvoje Ivanković and visual arts by Luka Gusić, is an enormous amount of photographs from all periods of Juvančić’s creative time, as well as DVD with the documentary “Jupa at the Festival”, directed and edited by Hrvoje Juvančić in cooperation with the Croatian Radio Television.
