Pogorelich at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival after 26 years
World famous Croatian pianist Ivo Pogorelich performed at the 62nd Dubrovnik Summer Festival on Monday, July 25 at 11 pm at the Rector's Palace.
The last time Pogorelich performed at the Festival was in 1985. No wonder that the Festival’s audience eagerly anticipated his return and that is why the concert has been sold-out for almost a month.
Extremely talented artist and pianist of unique abilities, Ivo Pogorelich started playing at the age of seven. He continued education in Moscow at the Tchaikovsky Conservatorium. After his debut in 1981, in the Carnegie Hall New York, triumphal performances in prestigious concert halls throughout the world followed. He performs with the leading world symphony orchestras like the Berlin Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His masterful interpretations of Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Tchaikovsky Prokofjev, Ravel, Liszt and others have been heard and praised by many. The praise of the critics is bolstered by the exuberance of musical enthusiasts throughout the globe, so the recordings of this artist have attained a high level of sold CD’s and similar media.
In the atrium of the Rector’s Palace he performed Franz Liszt’s compositions and the Sonata in b-minor by F. Chopin which he played at his concert 26 years ago. It was, without any doubt, interesting to hear once again this great artist to play a piece which launched his career 30 years ago.
