The cobblestone square in front of the Cathedral the city harbor and the Aquarium. Its current name is after the great Dubrovnik comedian and playwright Marin Držić.

The Dubrovnik Cathedral was built on the square according to the designs of Andrea Bufalini - the current Baroque cathedral is the third religious building built on this location.

Opposite the cathedral, next to the Sorkočević palace, there is a small church of St. Bartholomew which was built on the site of the pre-Romanesque church of St. Cosmas and Damian.
