Bachorkestra in the Rector's Palace – a Concert That Will Be Remembered!

Date created: 18.07.2014.

The Bachorchestra was founded in 1962 in Leipzig, a city famous for its music and culture, in which J. S. Bach acted from 1723 until his death in 1750.  The Bachorchestra, consisting strictly of members of the world-renown Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, is led by concert master Prof. Christian Funke, who was the first concert master of the Dresden Staatkapell. Their repertoire’s framework is composed of the works of J. S. Bach, compositions of the Italian Baroque, as well as early classical music.

National and international music critics highlight the liveliness and imagination of their performances, noting the visible fervor and joy of music-making, a common characteristic of all the orchestra's members, which last night’s audience had a chance of witnessing.

The orchestra’s members managed to stand out as excellent soloists and individuals, with the virtuosity of the cellist and first violin, the beautifully painted sounds of the oboe and the refreshing tones of the flute thrilling the audience, which they captured from the very beginning. The performers were awarded a grand applause already at the end of the first part of the concert, thus returning the musicians to the stage for another bow. This gives proof that last night’s performance was a concert that will be remembered for a long time.

Italian virtuoso Andrea Padova, set to perform a piano recital entitled “Around Bach and Scarlatti” on Saturday, 19th July in the Rector’s Palace, was also spotted in the audience enjoying the performance.
