Opera gala in front of the Cathedral for the end of the 73rd Festival

The 73rd Dubrovnik Summer Festival will traditionally close with a concert that the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra under the direction of maestro Ivan Repušić will hold tomorrow, 25 August at 10 p.m. in front of the Cathedral, joined by the opera star, soprano Adela Zaharia and the young tenor Filip Filipović.

The carefully selected programme will feature best works of classical music greats, starting with opened by the Overture from the opera Zampa, a comic opera by the French composer Ferdinand Hérold and one of his most successful works. Next on the programme are Juliette's famous waltz from the opera Roméo et Juliette, one of the most famous works of the French composer Charles Gounod, two compositions by the Italian opera great Gaetano Donizetti, namely Nemorino's aria "Una furtiva lagrima" from the second act of the opera L'elisir d'amore and Lucia's aria "Regnava nel silenzio from the opera Lucia di Lammermoor, Slavonic Dance in G minor from Antonín Dvořák's Slavonic Dances, Op. 46 and Rusalka's aria "Měsíčka na nebi hlubokém". Finally, selected works of the one of the greatest opera author Giuseppe Verdi will be sung, in particular, Alfredo's aria "De' miei bollenti spiriti" from La Traviata, one of the most popular operas ever, then the virtuoso dance Ballabile I from the third act of the opera Macbeth, the duet of Violetta and Alfredo "Parigi, about the emperor" from the La Traviata and the Overture to Verdi's momentous opera La forza del destino. The concert will be rounded off by Violetta's "É strano! - Semper libera" from the first act of La Traviata.

Filip Filipović

Soprano and winner of the prestigious Operalia competition, Adela Zaharia, thrills audiences and critics alike. She achieved success throughout Europe and on the international music scene, earning more recently praise for the role of Violetta at the Los Angeles Opera. She also won the Grand Prix at the Haricle Darclée International Solo Competition in Romania, and in addition to collaborating with distinguished conductors and musicians, in the 2022/23 season she will perform as Violetta in La Traviata at the Semperoper Dresden, as Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Zurich Opera and State Opera Hamburg and Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Donna Anna and Amina in La Sonnambula.

The young tenor Filip Filipović is this year's winner of the Boris Papandopulo competition. He is also the winner of a number of awards, such as first prizes at the Vera Kovač Vitkai International Competition in Novi Sad and at the Lav Mirski International Singing Competition in Osijek, as well as the recipient of the Ferdo Livadić Award for the best artistic personality and the Rector's Award for his participation in the J. Massenet opera project: Cinderella of the Music Academy in Zagreb.

Ivan Repušić

One of Croatia’s most important and successful conductors, Ivan Repušić is the chief conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra and the first Principal Guest Conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He forged his craft with the best national and international masters, and began his career at the Croatian National Theatre in Split, where he was Chief Conductor and Opera Director from 2006 to 2008. He was the Assistant Director for the music programme at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival from 2009 to 2012, and until recently General Music Director of the State Opera Hanover. Repušić holds numerous prestigious awards and recognitions, among which the Milka Trnina and the Orlando Award for the best achievement in the music programme at the 58th Festival stand out.
