LUIS CAMACHO MONTEALEGRE was born in 1994 in Spain (Alcázar de San Juan), where he studied at the Manuel Masotti Littel Conservatory under Juanfra Carrillo and won first prize at the Perkulliria International Percussion Competition. He studied with Sergi Perales, José Luis González, Javier Benet, Jean Geoffroy, Tchiki Duo and Keiko Abe.

He studied at the Zagreb Academy of Music, where he gave a solo performance of Igor Lešnik’s marimba concerto Water Sculpture. In January 2018 he received the Zagreb Academy of Music Dean’s Award. As part of the Rhythm-O-Phonia concert held in Vatroslav Lisinski Hall in Zagreb in 2019, he performed Igor Kuljerić’s Concerto for Ivana as soloist accompanied by the Zagreb Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. The same year, he won first prize at the Rhythm-O-Phonia International Percussion Competition. He earned his Master’s degree in Percussion in 2019 under Igor Lešnik and he also worked with Ivana Kuljerić Bilić during his studies.

He is currently Assistant Principal Percussionist at the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra and Teaching Assistant at the Zagreb Academy of Music.

During his studies, he started the Flam-a Duo with his colleague Francesco Mazzoleni. After winning second prizes at the IV Percute Competition in Valencia in 2016 and the Universal Marimba Competition in Belgium in 2017, the duo has performed at numerous festivals such as the Ivana Summer Percussion Festival (Samobor, Croatia), Salotto Musicale (Treviso/Belluno, Italy), International Percussion Ensemble Week (Bjelovar, Croatia), Percussion Camp (Tenerife, Spain), Križevci Percussion Evenings (Križevci, Croatia) and Arte Entre Gigantes (Campo de Criptana, Spain), and as part of the Croatian Radio’s European project Art’s Birthday in 2018, which was broadcast by the European Broadcasting Union network.

They have premiered the works of Croatian composers written specifically for their duo and promoted the Zagreb Academy of Music new recording studios with several original videos. In 2020 they posted a series of videos Sunday at Soundbrick Studio on their YouTube channel featuring performances of classical pieces for marimba and vibraphone in their own arrangements.
