Baritone Leon Košavić completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Zagreb Academy of Music under the mentorship of Giorgio Surian and continued his studies at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium with José van Dam. After his debut as Papageno in Mozart’s Magic Flute at the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb in 2012, he has performed on numerous stages in Croatia and in major European opera houses, such as the national operas in Finland, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and France, Teatro Regio Torino in Italy and the Royal Opera House in London, UK. He has performed with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dublin Symphony Orchestra, Jyväskylä Sinfonia, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra etc. In 2013 he won the audience award at the Zagreb Concert Management’s Young Singer of the Year Competition. He received the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Musician of the Year Award for his achievements in 2014. In 2015 he received the Emmerich Smola Award and was a finalist in the Queen Sonja International Music Competition in Norway. In 2016 he won third prize at the 9th International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Warsaw, as well as the award for the best interpretation of a Polish piece. He has been a member of the ensemble and a principal singer of the Opera of the Croatian National Theatre Osijek since 2020.
