Dubrovnik Dance Dream this summer on the terrace of Revelin Fortress!
“Dubrovnik Dance Dream – Small Steps to Big Dreams” is the title of a family ballet performance produced this summer by the Dubrovnik Summer Festival as part of the European project Family Theatre, in collaboration with the Luka Sorkočević Art School. The premiere will take place on July 25, 2026, on the terrace of Revelin Fortress.
The ballet will be performed to the music of The Seasons by A. K. Glazunov and The City Awakens by Dubrovnik composer Nena Ćorak. The choreography is created by a team of choreographers: Nicole Grill, Zrinka Japunčić, Doris Pavleković, Tomislav Petranović, Tea Prkačin, Paola Šutić, and Alida Vuković. Alongside renowned dancers from the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, Marija Diligente and Atina Tanović, more than fifty young Dubrovnik ballerinas—students of the Luka Sorkočević Art School—will also perform.
Through a poetic dance narrative, the performance follows the life and artistic journey of a girl named Pavla from Dubrovnik who dreams of becoming a ballerina. The audience enters her story told through the four seasons: a carefree childhood and first encounter with ballet (Spring), a period of work and learning (Summer), facing doubts and important decisions (Autumn), and maturity, discipline, and the fulfillment of her dream (Winter). The performance concludes with a return to the present, symbolically closing the circle—where a fulfilled dream becomes inspiration for new generations.
“Dubrovnik Dance Dream” celebrates the process, not just the result, and through a universal story of growing up and dreams, invites audiences of all generations to recognize their own aspirations in small, everyday steps. This production also represents a concrete contribution to the goals of the Family Theatre project—developing high-quality, inclusive, and innovative cultural content that connects families and strengthens a sense of belonging to shared European values.
As part of the European project Family Theatre, launched in October 2024 under the Creative Europe programme, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, together with partners Fondazione Aida (Italy), InSite Drama (Hungary), and the Gaiety School of Acting (Ireland), is developing innovative theatre formats intended for families.
