As the essential part of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival programme, the Linđo Folklore Ensemble will perform tonight, 17 July starting at 9:30 p.m. on the Revelin Fort terrace.
An indispensable part of the Festival since 1967, Linđo Folklore Ensemble will once again present a rich folklore programme to the audience this summer, celebrating the wealth of Croatian intangible heritage in the Festival’s 74th edition with a fresh and exciting new programme. Linđo’s artistic director Andrija Ivančan points out that this year's the audience can expect total folklore, or more precisely, overlapping dance numbers without pause, bringing an hour and 15 minutes of pure dynamism and an attractive repertoire based on beloved classics, but with a new original beginning, choreography, and musical numbers. Their programme opens with a dance to the traditional Croatian Zagorje (meaning backland) song Good Evening, Good People, continuing with a musical number from the Podravina region My Flowers, the Dances of Valpovo from the Bizovac region showcasing the vitality and optimism of their people, and Old Dances of Split boasting elegant movements and refined postures. Dances of Bunjevci which follow contain the famous kolo or circle dance in which boys compete in inventiveness to attract girls, achieving unique sound and rhythm effects with bells on their shiny boots. A music number, the song Green Orange, precedes the iconic Dubrovnik dance Linđo for which the ensemble was named, and after which musical interludes bring traditional a cappella singing before rounding off the programme with the elaborate Wedding Dance of Podravina.
After tonight's performance, the Festival crowd will have the opportunity to watch them again on 5, 14 and 19 August. Tickets for all Linđo performances are available via the festival website www.dubrovnik-festival.hr or the service www.ulaznice.hr, at the box office in the Festival Palace (Od Sigurate 1) every day from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and in front of the DTS building (Vukovarska St) from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
