After a long period of search, a group of singers thirsty for heartfelt music-making of the highest standard, gathered together in Ensemble Antiphonus around the beaming light of the group, their artistic leader Tomislav Fačini. Since the group's formation in 2006, Fačini has been taking them through the most varied programmes, blending their voices together and inviting them to stand out as soloists too. Nourishing the sound that aims to achieve melange of full-bodied East-European vocal sound tradition and Western balanced purity, Antiphonus has been building a wide-range repertoire, from the plainchant, through new pieces, as well as cross-over, to specially comissioned works. Fačini often invites a group of instrumentalists and vocal soloists to join the core vocal ensemble, making it possible for Antiphonus to flourish in programming as well as sound quality. Their concerts have been attended by the widest range of the audiences. A special attention given to Croatian contemporary music has been inspiring Antiphonus to premiere pieces by the foremost Croatian authors. They also gave the first contemporary performances of newly found old works that were digged out from dusty libraries. Antiphonus has been performing regularly at major Croatian festivals, including Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Korkyra Baroque, Osor Summer Festival, Zagreb Biennale, Split Summer Festival and Varaždin Baroque Evenings. Their performance crowned the Celebration Concert on the occasion of Croatia joining the EU and they represented Croatia at the national festival in Paris Croatie, le voici, followed by toures in Finland, Hungary, Slovenia and Serbia. Antiphonus has also appeared alongside renowned soloists Renata Pokupić, Max Emmanuel Cenčić and Croatian Baroque Ensemble in Bruxelles at Bozar in a concert marking the beginning of Croatian presidency of the Councill of Europe in January 2020. Antiphonus has been making recordings frequently for the Croatian Radio and Television, and its album of Croatian seicento Ne le tue braze was nominated for the national award. Its quality surely has won a special place in the music lovers' hearts and collections. Antiphonus' productions and concerts of Dido & Aeneas, Bach's Johannespassion, Cavalieri's Rapprasentatione and Monteverdi's Vespro toured all the major Croatian festivals and cities. Antiphonus has their two annual concert series in Zagreb: The Triads, featuring chamber vocal music, madrigals and baroque opera, and Trinitas that presents sacred a cappella and oratorio concerts. The cycle Trinitas was awarded prestigious Milka Trnina Prize. Antiphonus also won the award Judita from Split Summer Festival for the concert of works by Monteverdi and his contemporaries under the title Amor dolcegarbo.
