Matej Mijalić (2000) was born in Rijeka. He started learning violin at the age of 8 at the Ivan Matetić Ronjgov Music School in Rijeka. At the age of 12 he enrolled in the "Hochbegapte course" at the University of Music and Applied Arts in Vienna in the class of Marina Sorokow.

In 2017 he enrolled in the Music Academy in Zagreb in the class of Leonid Sorokow. During his studies he won numerous first prizes at international competitions such as the "Young Virtuosi" competition, the "Lions Grand Prix", where he was the absolute winner of the "Mark and Pioneer International Music Competition", the "Rudolf Matz" International Competition, where he was also the overall winner of the competition. He won first and absolute prizes at the "Daleki Akordi" competition, the "Svirel" competition in Slovenia and at the 6th edition of the HDGPP competition. In 2024 he became the winner of the Ferdo Livadić Award for the best musical personality. In 2020, he received the Rector's Award for his role as concertmaster in the project of the opera Cinderella by J. Massenet. In 2021, he performed Johannes Brahms's Violin Concerto in D major at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, for which he was awarded the Dean's Award and the Stjepan Šulek Fund Award for the best performance of a violin piece. He received the Darko Lukić Diploma in 2025 for his performance of works by Ysaye, Franck and Wieniawski. For Croatian Radio Television, he recorded Josip Štolcer Slavenski's "Slavic Sonata" accompanied by David Vuković. He performed as a soloist accompanied by "L'orchestre de la Garde Républicaine" at La Seine Musicale in Paris, where he performed the concerto by P.I. Tchaikovsky for violin and orchestra, he performed accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic, the HRT Tambura Orchestra with soprano Evelin Novak, the Zagreb Soloists, the Rucner Quartet, the "Cantus" Ensemble, the Music Academy Symphony Orchestra, the Academy Baroque Ensemble and the Saint Jeronim Ensemble. He performed as a soloist in Croatia, Italy, Austria, Germany, France, England, Poland, Hungary and Belgium.

In 2022, he graduated from the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of prof. Orestes Shourgot.

In 2023, he starts studying at "Royal

Academy of Music" in London with a full scholarship in the class of Roman Simović and Sina Simonen. Since 2024, he has been in the class of Nemanja Radulović as part of the Program "L'Académie Phillipe Jaroussky" in Paris. He was loaned a violin by Giuseppe Gagliano made in Naples in 1791.

Since 2025, he has been a full-time assistant for violin at the Academy of Music in Zagreb.
