This summer, one of the drama titles will be a co-production of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and the Marin Držić Theatre. Carlo Goldoni's iconic La Bottega del Caffè, as translated and adapted by Frano Čale into the Dubrovnik dialect, will be staged by director Paolo Tišljarić at Držić Square. La Bottega, directed by Tomislav Radić, premiered at the Festival back in 1978 at Gundulić Square, also as a play by the Marin Držić Theatre, and had remained a part of the repertoire for an entire decade! Although the play is set in a precise historical context, the focus will be on its actuality, the vitality of comedy, irony, wit, manipulation of information, today's attitudes towards the virtues and flaws that the author subtly portrays, and the mechanisms that regulate social dynamics.
