The dramatic program of the 77th Dubrovnik Summer Festival is exceptionally rich and varied. In addition to exciting guest appearances and favorite reruns, it will offer festival audiences a continued exploration and development of dynamic co-production and ambient concepts, as well as major premieres. This summer, the first drama premiere will be a co-production of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Marin Držić Theatre and Croatian National Theatre Split – The Miser, one of Marin Držić’s classics, directed by Paolo Magelli and staged at Ruđer Bošković Square. The two main motifs of the plot are love and gold—that is, money—and the miserliness of the old man Skup. Držić writes about human weaknesses that continue to shape society, politics, family life, and interpersonal relationships today.

FIRST DRAMATIC CO-PRODUCTION OF THE DUBROVNIK SUMMER FESTIVAL AND SPLIT SUMMER FESTIVAL
Rehearsals Begin for The Miser, Directed by Paolo Magelli
The two largest national summer festivals, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and the Split Summer Festival, together with the Marin Držić Theatre (KMD), announce the first dramatic co-production in their decades-long history. This historic collaboration marks the first time the country’s two leading summer festivals have joined forces on a major theatrical project, creating a dialogue between past and present.
The co-production brings to the stage Marin Držić’s masterpiece, the comedy The Miser, directed by one of Europe’s most prominent theatre directors, Paolo Magelli. The production features an outstanding cast led by the brilliant Frano Mašković, with actors from the Croatian National Theatre Split, the Marin Držić Theatre, and guest performers from Zagreb.
This collaboration, which is certain to become one of the cultural highlights of the season, sets new standards for festival partnerships and artistic cooperation.
