The publication “Dance de Luxe” is a follow-up to the exhibition of the same name by Mariana Pende and Olaf Nicolai presented at the Meštrović Pavilion in Zagreb in 2023.It continues the specific situational exhibition architecture in a special way - in the form of an artist's book.
Pende and Nicolai installed in the monumental pavilion a spatial arrangement that was inspired by the informal architecture of Dubrovnik's Danče beach. During the exhibition, this walk-in landscape was used for various activities and could be experienced in different ways. The publication takes up these performative aspects and functions as a visual guide through this imagined world. Just as the title of the book and exhibition, “Dance de Luxe”, plays with the name “Danče”, the artist's book enters into a joyful dialog with the real location of Danče through its design - which can be experienced in situ on the occasion of the book presentation at the Convent and Church of St Mary's (Our Lady of Danče).
