Dreams of Lost Years is a new theatrical adventure by Ler, which, in keeping with the recognizable stage poetics of this Dubrovnik theater, reopens and questions nostalgic and elegiac images of the region and scenes of lost, hidden and secret albums of memories inscribed in the years of those who do not forget. A poetic amarchord of wistful and melancholic scenes about transience, unrealized loves, sorrows and longings that remain dreams and, together with them, scattered in lost scrapbooks and years lived. For comfort to those who remember and do not count birthdays. When all the clocks have stopped and the jugo and mistral have wiped away tears. A lyrical theatrical story about women who wait, dream, pray and remain alone, sorting through their own alibis, unrealized encounters, loves and longings. Abandoned by silences, darkness and phobias in which, in vain, they search for meaning and excuses. Memories cannot, like people, move away somewhere and not return. They live in this City in every sigh of those who remain. Remaining sheltered in their own imaginary refuge where they sense, yearn and endure. Alone “they come with all those who come / and they leave with all those who leave”. Mentioning, dreaming, mourning and summarizing and not only their life’s calculations. Despite everything and everyone. In Dreams of the Lost Years. And not only them.
Some elements of the play. Fragments of prose, drama and other writings: Tim Lihoreau Modern Phobias / Davor Mojaš Pelargonium, Drops / Gregory Corso Feeling that I am getting old (translated by Vojo Šindolić), evergreen La piogia by Gigliola Cinquetti from 1969. / Muse Pavlova First, second / Waltz of sighs / Dolls left behind / Voices from a distance / Silences / Silences
“How to confront transience? / Give up reading obituaries? / Give up on oneself? / Yes, when I was young / old people always looked old / as if they were born old / And the contemporaries of Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh / seemed eternal / Yes, now that I am older / the old people of my youth are dead / and the young people of my youth are old / (G.Corso)
"..I cannot be late for the theater. Many underestimate the role of theater in our lives, but that is a misconception. Theatricality must enter our lives, it must change our consciousness. The role of consciousness is important in our lives. This is confirmed by experiments with chickens..." (M.Pavlova)
"Years pass. The eyes leak drops that they collect in the wrinkles on the face, between the fingers on the lips and in the silences of the soul. Or were they tears. Once. And never." (D.Mojaš)
