Camerata RCO are coming to the Rector's Palace!

Date created: 15.08.2023.

Camerata RCO, a mixed strings and winds ensemble of Amsterdam's renowned Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO) members, will hold a concert at the 74th Dubrovnik Summer Festival on Friday, 18 August in the Rector’s Palace atrium at 9:30 p.m., and perform compositions by Nino Rota and Johannes Brahms.

Starting off the concert will be Nonetto by the Italian composer Nino Rota. Through the five movements of this expansive composition, Rota presents a variety of contrasting moods – light-heartedness, melodrama, humour, frenzy – always demanding virtuosity. This famous 20th century composer made a great contribution to film music, composing for about 150 films, among which Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather and The Godfather II stand out, for which Rota also won the prestigious Grammy and Oscar awards. The second and last piece on the evening repertoire will be Serenade no. 1 in D major, Op. 11 by the German composer and pianist Johannes Brahms. This composition is Brahms' nod to Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert, filtered through Romanticism with expanded harmony.
