Krešimir Bedek in the Rector's Palace

Renowned guitarist Krešimir Bedek is performing at the Rector’s Palace atrium this Wednesday, 26 July at 9:30 p.m. He will play pieces by Joaquín Turina, Fernando Sor, Miguel Llobet, Manuel Ponce, Ivan Josip Skender, and Alberto Ginastera.

The concert will open with Hommage à Tárrega by Spanish composer Joaquín Turina, followed by Grand Sonata in C Major by the composer and successful concert guitarist Fernando Sor, who took inspiration from Haydn and Mozart, followed by Miguel Llobet’s Variations on a Theme by Sor and then by another brilliant guitarist, Manuel Ponce, and his Sonatina Meridional which borders folk music, neoclassicism, neo-romanticism and impressionism. Bedek will also perform for the first time, right here at the 74th Festival, the composition entitled Sonata Movement for Guitar written by Croatian composer Ivan Josip Skender and commissioned by Bedek. Rounding off the programme is Sonata, op. 47 by one of the most important South American composers Alberto Ginastera.

Krešimir Bedek (Zagreb, 1981) earned a degree in guitar performance at the Zagreb Academy of Music under the guidance of Darko Petrinjak, and a postgraduate degree from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague under Zoran Dukić. He has won numerous awards and is especially dedicated to promoting new and rarely performed works. Croatian composers Gordan Tudor, Ivan Josip Skender and Ivana Kiš composed pieces for him. He won the Darko Lukić Award, the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall Award and the Zagreb University Teachers Association Annual Award for young scientists and artists as well as the prestigious Milka Trnina Award from the Croatian Association of Musical Artists for exceptional artistic achievement. He serves as Associate Professor at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb.
